Plitvice lakes, also called Plitvice, is one of Croatia’s oldest and largest national parks and for the last 40 years, also a part of the UNESCO World Heritage.
The national park consists of many turquoise lakes riddled with barriers called tufa, connected together by picturesque waterfalls. The wooden pathways blend in beautifully with the surrounding scenery while providing the visitors with first row seats to the exceptional biological diversity of this location.
The park, with its 16 lakes, stretches across 300km². The colour of the lakes is usually turquoise, however it can range from blue and green to grey, depending on the sunlight and the amount of microorganisms and minerals in the water.
More than one million visitors enter Plitvice lakes each year. The paths are mostly mild with a few steep stairways. There are many different routes to take, with the shortest taking 2-3 hours to complete a 3km trek and the longest up to 10 hours for the 18km trek. Many of them include a ride on the boat and a ride on the bus which are both, of course, fully electric.
